WORLD CAFE LIVE AT THE QUEEN HOSTS WSTW’S 7TH ANNUAL HOMEY AWARDS
On Friday, March 8th, The World Cafe Live at the Queen Theater in Wilmington, hosted WSTW’s 7th annual Homey Awards. Sponsored by Gable Music Ventures and Planet Ten Multimedia, the event drew hundreds of enthused musicians, producers, industry members, and music fans.
Beginning shortly after seven, local ensemble Peace Creeps Trio entertained the growing crowd as they cast a festive and light-hearted mood that lasted for the remainder of the evening. The ceremony followed a format that switched between award presentations and musical performances, and that included local favorite Joe Trainor Trio and reunited pop-groups Ike and Brett Talley Band. Gable Music Venture-sponsored artist Angela Sheik also had her turn onstage, and she took advantage of it by giving an emotive vocal performance that included tracks from her debut album “One by One.”
The event was hosted by WSTW’s Hometown Heroes host Mark Rogers, who was himself the recipient of an award presented by Gable Music Ventures for his dedicated support to the local music scene on and off the radio. Among the winners were Joe Trainor and Cliff Hills for artist of the year; The Splashing Pearls’ “Stories from the Bottle” for album of the year; Boy Wonder and Ginger Coyle for male and female solo artist respectively; and June Divided for best band. As the last acceptance speech of the night came to a close, Delaware ska band, The Bullbuckers closed out the evening with a dazzling set that came as the cherry on top for an event meant to honor the many hard-working artists of the Tri-State Area.
